we're  stickin' with through training camp unless a couple of them wuss out of...but I doubt that'll happen!" The word around the

organization is that everyone is happy with the roster. "Karl Jacob, "Iron Man" Tony Stark, Michael Giguere, Willie Berry and

Abe Adama are an amazing group of rookies. They'll see a lot of playing time and hopefully they'll enjoy being Commandos"

End of Draft, OIFL loans and Open Tryouts.

                 April 15, 2008

Tax day has come again folks. Some folks view it as a good day and others as a bad one. The Washington Commandos are

happy to have tax day come. Why? It signifies the end of the 2008 OIF2 Draft. The Commandos are very happy with their

selections too. In the final three rounds of the draft the Commandos took a different turn and choose two straight kickers in Rex

Bridger and Gene Borowski. "I got some phone calls asking me what the hell I was doing with drafting two kickers in a row. I just

asked them how they'd like to be watching a game where their kicker gets taken out. That would force the offense into making

two point attempts the rest of the game!" Owner/GM Mr. Essex said. Washington's final selection was WRDB Pasquale Kimble.

"I tolds'em, I said hey, Mr. Essex, you draft me, I wanna play defense" Kimble commented. Mr. Essex had only this to say on the

subject "the details of Pasquale's contract aren't for everyone but one way or the other he'll be playing a lot of defense". Will he be

moved to a full time DS? Only time and the Commandos training camp will tell.

The Commandos also have picked up a few more to add to the unit. The Tucson Scorpions loaned RBLB Michael Giguere,

WRBD Willie Berry and OLDL Bob Schauber. The Tampa Bay Marauders have loaned

and Tampa Bay Marauders have loaned Washington QB Shaun Whitehead, WRDB Dewey Stubblefield and OS Rauntorrez

Ashworth. "Garrie and Brian didn't have to loan me anything but they did and these guys will be valuable members of the

Commandos team all year" Mr. Essex commented. "We also invited a few guys that I found in the last couple years to try out.

Some of them made it on the squad in our Open Tryouts too! So that was exciting". Those making the Open Tryouts were

WRDB Danny Boll, two DSs in Abraham Adama and Tony "Ironman" Stark. Also joining were two OLDLs in

Lars Babaganoosh and the big boy from England, Trevor Bruttenholm.

Until next time. Defend the Battlefield!

Draft Picks, Uniforms and the Battlefield

                 April 5, 2008

This week has been a busy one for the Washington Commandos. The 2008 OIF2 Draft has continued with Washington

making several more picks. WRDB B.J. Lewis was selected in the third round, in the fourth the Commandos picked up their first

QB in Martin Wiwchar. The fifth round saw Washington take RBLB Lane Michael and in round six and seven the Commandos

chose speed in DS Jeff Arroyo and WRDB D.J. Nelson. The Draft continues through the next two weeks.

In other news the Commandos have had a redesign on their uniforms. The OIF2 did not support the camouflage pants design

the organization had gone with. Owner Adam Essex commented saying "The league thought they were too distracting but I

wanted to keep them. In the end I had to choose between keeping the camo pants or losing the black battlefield turf. I chose to

keep the black turf so we redesigned the uniforms. I think they turned out great. The new uniforms can be seen here.

Speaking of the black battlefield, its been laid out and everyone is very excited about it. The complete of Battlefield Stadium is

scheduled for June 1st and the next day the black turf will be set. "I've not ever been playing on any black turf. It should be a fun

challenge and a very home advantage" OLDL Gunther Peterson said on the subject. "Its crazy to look at but once you get used to

it then theres no problem" Head Coach Vernon McCoy said. "Our visiting opponents are gonna be freaked about by it though.

That should be fun to watch!"

     OIFL2 2008 Draft Continues

                 March 28, 2008

Earlier today the Commandos made their second and third picks in the OIF2 2008 Draft. The Commandos chose the draft's

18th overall pick to be an OL/DL by the name of Gunther Peterson. Peterson, a German native, came to the states to attend

college. He enjoyed a good career in football with the Wisconsin Badgers. After graduation Peterson decided to stay in the

states and try his hand in the OIFL.

As a free agent, Commandos Coach Vernon McCoy couldn't resist Peterson. "Gunther is someone I've watched and hoped to

get to coach one day. He's a little rough around the edges and he's young, but he's got that natural skill that every QB wants his

  linemen to have".

With Battlefield Arena's construction coming along smoothly and the Commandos team finally starting to shape together,

things are all a buzz around the Seattle and Olympia area.

     OIFL2 2008 Draft Begins!

                 March 24, 2008

The OIF2 2008 Draft began Easter Sunday with the Philadelphia Colonials drafting RB/LB Ken Stewart. Commandos Head

Coach Vernon McCoy got to work right away working closely with Owner and General Manager of the franchise, Adam Essex.

With the third overall pick in the 2008 Draft the Commandos chose Offensive Specialist Ken Jacob. Adam Essex had this to say

about Jacob "He's a stand out in my eye. Vernon and I think he'll fit in with the Commando unit we have in store".

Coach McCoy seems to have a plan set. "I've worked on a game plan for this team since the night I was hired. Adam and I

looking for the best to play for the Commandos. We have pretty high expectations".

Washington doe not choose another pick until late in the second round when they take the 18th spot. We'll keep a sharp eye on

  the draft as it unfolds.
